Dr Chowhan has been actively involved in medical practice and teaching general Nuclear Medicine, treating patients of thyroid disease, thyroid cancer, neuroendocrine tumors hepatic tumors, painful bone metastases, besides neuroblastomas.
His professional career spans over 18 years practice in super specialty hospitals of international prominence He has expertise in areas of intraoperative localization of sentinel node in breast cancer, melanoma and other tumors where conservative treatment can be planned, thus avoiding painful, mutilating major surgery. His training in Germany provides him with the expertise to treat cases of arthritis with radionuclides. He is an ex-fellow of TUM, Germany for Molecular imaging and PET-CT. Aside from this, Dr. Chowhan teaches postgraduate doctors and has also researched, published and presented many papers in national and international forums. Dr. Chowhan has conducted several CMEs in India and the Middle East for doctors and specialists. Dr. Manoranjan Chowhan graduated from Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati Medical College, Bermapur, India, in 1986. Following a fellowship in Internal Medicine, he completed post-graduate training at the Radiation Medicine Centre (part of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre) in Mumbai. He earned his DNB (Diplomatae of National Board of Examination) in Delhi. Dr. Chowhan has worked as Senior Registrar at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Since then, he has been working in various medical institutes in India and overseas as a consultant, besides having teaching assignments.
What is a PET-CT Scan?
PET-CT is a relatively new diagnostic imaging exam that combines the functional information from a PET scan with the anatomical information from a CT scan. When a CT scan is superimposed over a PET scan, doctors can pinpoint the exact location of abnormal activity. They can also see the level and extent of that activity. Even when an abnormal growth is not yet visible on a CT scan, the PET scan may show the abnormal activity.
